Online Marketing

Everyone starting out with a desire to do online marketing does internet searches for how to earn money online. Almost immediately, we become inundated with offers to be an affiliate for this program and that program and it all looks like easy money. Sometimes it is easy money, but does that mean we should become an affiliate?

I hear you asking, “What’s the alternative?”

Have affiliates work for you! That’s the alternative!

Sure, being an affiliate can be a great way to learn internet marketing and to learn the ropes of how to build a web site, develop an email list, run ads, and generally get a reputation as an expert in a particular niche.

However, who is making the big bucks? You? Certainly not. Doesn’t the product manufacturer have the client list? Do you get “forever” commissions? Note that some affiliate programs do pay this way, but they are very rare. usually, you get paid on the first sale, and after that the manufacturer can market directly to the customer and cut you out of the loop.

This is why some products, especially information products will pay a 100% commission. The maker of the product does not care that you get all the commissions, because he gets the rest of the sales from this customer forever. Who has the better end of the deal? the product manufacturer does, that’s who!

The solution to this is to make your own products. I know, I know, I hear you screaming, “But I wouldn’t know where to start!” That’s OK, because everyone has to start somewhere.

You can start by getting good at a few things:

- web site design
- building squeeze pages
- writing articles
- running ads
- getting active on forums
- list building
- blogging
- niche selection

Once you have those skills down (or learned to outsource the ones you are just not able to master) then you can start working on developing a product.

Check back to this website as I will be adding information on product development down the road.

A free resource is EdAkehurst.com which has several free tips and tools for your use.

Awesome SEO Course

Every internet marketer needs to learn to make their web sites search engine optimized. There are many courses available to teach this and many services that will do it for a fee. Internet marketers need to be able to do this for themselves.

I recently picked up a course by John S. Rhodes called “Juggernaut SEO“. This is a massive course that discusses every possible aspect of SEO. That does not mean it is too complicated to go through – far from it. It is a series of videos and supplemental material (such as mind maps, slides and PDF files).

This course is the most comprehensive search engine optimization course I have ever come across. John is a machine. He did this course as live webinars and some of the sessions are almost 5 hours (yes, that is PER SESSION!). He has a lot to teach and he teaches it well.

The techniques he teaches are evergreen, meaning they are not some fad to beat the search engines that will need to be redesigned in a couple months. These are techniques that will be viable for many, many years.

It is imperative that these techniques are learned if you want to be a successful internet marketer. Anyone can build a site, but if no one sees it, you will never reach your marketing goals.

The only downside to Juggernaut SEO is that the course is over 20 hours and thus requires a real commitment to absorb it all.

This course will show you how to optimize your websites in such a way as to achieve real, long-term results. You will never need another SEO course after this.

One of the key elements to successful internet marketing is called “Article Marketing“. This is where you write a 300- 600 word article and post it conspicuously on the internet for others to read. Whatever topic you are promoting could have numerous articles written about it.

For example, if you are promoting a web site that sells tennis balls, you could write articles not just about tennis balls, but also about the game of tennis, the tennis court, proper attire, the best shoes, or even famous tennis matches. People looking to buy tennis balls would have an interest in any of those topics.

Article marketing is well-known to most long time internet marketers and while it is extremely effective, it has several drawbacks. It is time intensive and can only pronto one keyword (or keyword phrase) effectively. It is not an easy job, and it can sometimes can take as long to research a topic and layout the article as it does to actually write and submit it.

There are numerous “tricks of the trade”, however, and here are three of the best ones:

1. Learn different writing styles so that once you have an article written, you can re-write it in a different style in such a way that it is a completely new article. If you master this skill, every article you write could actually become three or four (or more) articles, saving you much time and allowing you to get extra backlinks from one article without duplicating content. Note: avoid article spinners – they portend to do the same thing, but they are rarely readable. never forget that at the end of the day you are writing for humans, not search engines.

2. Plan your article ahead of time. It takes less time to research the article, layout your thoughts in an outline or mind-map, and know ahead of time what and how you will be writing than it does it you just try to “wing it”.

3. Make sure the keywords you are using can be used and still seem natural. It is imperative to use good long tail keywords, but if they do not sound natural within the article, the reader will leave your site and perhaps never come back. The preparation stage (#2 above) can help a lot with implementing this stage.

Article writing (and marketing) is an art form, but it is one that can be taught and can be mattered with practice. Unless you can afford to always outsource your article writing, it is a good idea to learn to become proficient at it.

There is an excellent resource tool available that can teach you (with a bit of practice) to write a 400 word article in 7 minutes, and turn out 8 variations of it every time. It is a course from Jason Fladlien called “7 Minute Article Secrets“. I highly recommend it – it will improve your article marketing many times over.
